🏃‍♀️ Mindset of an Endurance Athlete

Podcast: The School of Greatness  | Medium: Spotify

It was nice listening to this as I slowly get back into exercise after a few weeks of recovery. It was a good reminder that our value is not tied to our accomplishments or the labels we want to identify with. And that every ultramarathon starts with a single mile.

Notes:

  • You don’t need motivation. You just need to start.
  • "Just because you think you can’t do something. That doesn’t mean you’re right."
  • Using/reframing fear. Fear of regret + satisfaction of trying > fear of failure.
  • Use pain as a signal to learn.
  • Who am I if I fail? Remember you don’t need to earn self-worth. Your self-worth is not dependent on your achievements. Everything we have is a gift. Even your hard work is a gift.
  • Sometimes we project that others are better or gifted to avoid trying and not taking 100% responsibility for our lives.
  • "Motivation is overrated... Motivation starts when you do... Motivation is like momentum. When you begin it will start."
  • Find something worth failing for.
  • Greatness is about service and doing something greater than yourself.
