👨💻 Confessions of the Self-Employed: is this what I want?
Being self-employed is a mind game. This blog is to document the thoughts that plague my mind, as well as actions to relieve those thoughts.
Confession: is this what I want?
In today's day and age concepts of 'being your own boss', 'laptop lifestyle' and 'financial freedom' don the world of social media. And so has the boom of personalities of the 'entrepreneur', 'hustler' and 'influencer'.
We are fed notions that we are great, capable and can achieve anything we want - which is completely true. Everyone has the ability to be the next Elon Musk. But the question is, is that what we want? Does it align with our values? Or is it something we strive for so we too can post it on social media feeds, update our LinkedIn profiles and have something to say the next time we see our friends?
We are all here in life to be different. We don't need to be the next to Elon Musk to be "successful" because success is subjective. There are dreamers and there are doers. There are creatives and there are technicians. We all contribute in our own way.
Exercise: alignment with my values
I believe any career can be beneficial. Whether that be a CEO or an employee. Our careers change as we change. And every opportunity is a chance to express our values. My values:
- Growth: I am constantly being pushed outside my comfort zone. I have opportunities to exercise confidence, proactiveness, and commercial prowess.
- Excellence: Imposter syndrome is heavy but I know I get to provide value no one else can. I work hard, aim for excellence, and constantly invest in myself.
- Impact: I can directly influence the lives of the clients I serve.
